The CEEC Medal
Our way of saying great work. The Medal recognises outstanding research and field work on beneficial strategies for energy-efficient comminution, mineral processing, energy, water and tailings management, granted annually to the authors of outstanding papers.
Why the Medal Exists
Launched in 2012 to raise awareness of comminution research findings, alternative strategies and installed outcomes, to lower processing costs by accelerating knowledge and technology transfer, and to increase value through improved practice.
Recognition
Individuals and teams making an outstanding contribution to eco-efficiency in mineral processing by reducing energy, water and tailings.
Shared Knowledge
Work that builds global knowledge and inspires eco-efficient excellence in others, published where the industry can use it.
The Business Case
Demonstrating the business benefits of alternative flowsheets, so better practice is adopted on commercial grounds.
How Work Is Judged
Papers are assessed against three parameters. Submissions must be of a standard suitable for technical review, and written or presented within the past 18 months.
Impact
The potential reduction in energy, water and tailings delivered by the work.
Applicability
How readily the concepts can be adopted in the design or operation of mineral processing circuits, demonstrated with case studies.
Quality
Robust data analysis, logical presentation of results and a clearly communicated conclusion.

Operations
Work grounded in operating practice: circuits, plants and improvements that have survived contact with reality on site.
Technical Research
Research contributions that advance the science and open new routes to lower energy, water and tailings outcomes.
Putting a Paper Forward
Nominations are made in two parts, then assessed in a two-step review.
Submit the application form
Provides the information about the authors and the submitted work.
Send the published work
A copy of the published paper, article or case study, submitted alongside the form.
Technical review
Meritorious submissions are distributed for review by members of CEEC’s Technical Advisory Committee.
Board approval
The committee presents its final recommendation in both categories to the CEEC Board of Directors. Board decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
What recipients receive
- Global recognition across CEEC media releases, newsletters and the CEEC website.
- Use of the CEEC Medal Winner logo on letterhead, newsletters, websites and investor bulletins.
- Presentation of the medal at a prestigious industry event in the authors’ country of employment.
- A CEEC feature article published in collaboration with a global mining media organisation.
Recipients Since 2012
Every medal and high commendation awarded, with the paper, its authors and where the work was published. In the new site each entry becomes a page of its own, linked to the paper in the Knowledge Centre and to any podcast around it.
