About This Project

Transforming the Flowsheet for Tailings: Innovation for a Sustainable Future is CEEC’s workshop series on how upstream flowsheet decisions shape downstream tailings outcomes, from wet through to dry. It is the first industry consultation of the Global Tailings Initiative.

Why it exists

Better tailings outcomes depend on earlier, more integrated thinking by process engineers, before decisions are locked in.

Status & next steps

Adelaide ran in March 2026 ahead of MetPlant, its report published in May. Santiago was set for September 2026, and a CEEC white paper follows.

Who is involved

Professionals from mineral processing, tailings, water and geoscience, with facilitators Philip Bangerter, Laurie Reemeyer, Matt Pyle, Andrew Vietti and Campbell Haines.

How the Workshops Run

Short technical presentations, a structured tailings game, group flowsheet design and live polling. Participants work through contrasting archetype scenarios, then revisit their assumptions as new information arrives on clay behaviour, water chemistry, particle size distribution, dewatering, storage and closure.

Who It Is For

Process, tailings and water engineers weighing the options between wet thickened and filtered dry-stacked tailings, for existing operations and new projects alike.
