About This Initiative
The Energy and Emissions Initiative carries CEEC’s founding work on energy-efficient comminution into a wider brief: process-side energy demand and emissions intensity across the whole flowsheet. It is anchored by the Energy Curves benchmarking tool while its scope is set.
Why it matters
Energy demand and emissions intensity shape both the cost of processing and its footprint.
The Challenge
Energy use is hard to compare between sites, and the path from operational optimisation to transformational change in how energy moves through the flowsheet is rarely mapped. Operators need a shared baseline before they can see where the largest gains are.
Our Approach
Energy Curves lets comminution circuit operators benchmark their energy efficiency against over 100 mines, across four profiles: work index, size specific energy, tonne intensity and grade intensity. Operators contribute anonymously, and the University of Queensland secures and manages the data. Workshops such as The Future of Comminution rank technologies across three horizons, Now, New and Next, to build a roadmap for comminution innovation.
